Messing about on the river
Gari Jones returned to direct this mad-cap, fun, heart-warming and generally bonkers adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale of the beauty of friendship and nature.
The North Wall was transformed into the bustling riverbank, the Wild Wood and the open road with carol singing mice, streetwise weasels and Toad’s motorcar-stealing ways leaving chaos in his wake
Reviews
“We all know the story, right? Messing about in boats, Toad, poop-poop, the Wild Wood, secret tunnel, weasels and almighty dustup to finish with. Creation embellish this venerable narrative framework with a blizzard of novelties – from the opening scene in which a group of hikers stumble over a book in what seems like an abandoned building, to self-referential meta moments when the actors step out of character to squabble among themselves.” The Guardian
“Enormously fun, utterly compelling, seriously off-the-wall, mesmerizingly atmospheric and pretty surreal.” The Oxford Times
