This Summer we have a programme of one or two day masterclasses – young people can join us for a single day or the full week!  There are two age groups for the masterclasses: 7-11 years (primary) and 11-16 years (secondary). Workshops take place at Wolvercote Primary School, OX2 8AQ.

Thursday 13th August:

Shadow and Silhouette Theatre (ages 7-11) – Young creators will dive into the magic of shadow puppetry, learning how to use shapes and movement to tell captivating stories. They’ll get to design and build their very own custom puppets before teaming up to write, direct, and perform their own original shadow plays. It’s a unique mix of craft, performance and storytelling.

Friday 14th August:

Imagination Academy (ages 7-11) – A musical and creative day where you can bring a character to life in this fun workshop filled with singing, dancing, acting and costume design!

Thursday 13th – Friday 14th August:

Make a Shakespeare Musical 2-day Workshop (ages 11-16) – Join Creation Theatre for ‘Make a Shakespeare Musical’, a two-day intensive designed to deconstruct the classics and rebuild them with a modern soundtrack. Over two days, you’ll take a Shakespearean text and adapt it into a new musical. You’ll be devising, singing, dancing, and acting, before performing your work at the end of the second day.

“We were so impressed with the show, and the group’s complete engagement and immersion in the material. My daughter enjoyed the whole week!”

“This was such a brilliant week and it has got both my sons hooked on acting. They both said that the time flew and that they loved every second. It has made their half term and they were both buzzing after their plays!”

“My son especially loved working as a team, the challenge of doing something different and working on a classic play.”

Holiday Workshop FAQs

Holiday Workshops run 10am-4pm, and we offer flexible pickup and drop off from 9am-5pm each day. The reason for this is a 9-5 day working on their plays can be quite long for some children, so you can drop off any time between 9am and 10am and pick up between 4pm and 5pm.

Generally the day is split between games and warmups, creating and rehearsing scenes, and breaks. When the venue (and the weather!) allows we’ll take breaks outside. We also often combine groups at break and warmup times, so siblings or friends in different groups have a chance to be together.

Children need to bring a packed lunch (no nuts, please and no glass jars), a water bottle and appropriate clothes to go outside if the weather is good enough.

On the Monday we’ll do lots of getting-to-know-you games, and also vote on which play to perform at the end of the week. Then on Friday there’s a final performance in the afternoon, where we’d love to see as many parents and supporters as possible.

It’s down to the kids! On the first day of each workshop we hold a vote. The leader will present three options, always drawn from Shakespeare, classic texts, and well known folk stories, give a synopsis of the story, and then it’ll be down to the group to vote for the one they’re most excited about making their own.

Yes – if a workshops falls on a bank holiday it would still run. However, if your child has to miss one day because you have something planned it’s not the end of the world and the leader will catch them up, or make alternative plans for the show.

We’re happy to add you to the waiting list, but it isn’t often that we get cancellations. Do let us know by emailing education@creationtheatre.co.uk or calling 01865 766266 as if there is demand we can put on another workshop in the same week.

In short, yes! We give age ranges on the workshops as a guide, but you know your child best. If you think they’d be happier with an older or younger gang for the week then it’s up to you.

We don’t accept childcare vouchers as payment for our workshops. If you would like to apply for a bursary place please email education@creationtheatre.co.uk

Our workshops run 10am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday but we offer flexible drop off and pick up from 9am – 5pm.

If you would like your child to move groups, please call our box office on 01865 766 266 or email education@creationtheatre.co.uk. We will be happy to accomodate any changes if we have space in the group you would like to move to.

Final shows will be held between 3pm – 3:30pm on the Friday, this will be confirmed via email on the Wednesday of the workshop.

This refers to our 5-day workshops. No problem. Our workshops are designed to make sure any child who misses a day can catch up quickly whilst having fun!

Unless members are happy to do so, we will not ask them to read during our holiday workshops, instead we use a technique called I-CANN in which we say a line and ask the children to repeat it. We find  this helps with confidence and understanding.

YES! All our workshops are about having fun and being creative, we encourage children to take part in as much or as little as they like and try our best to find what ‘sparks’ each child’s imagination, so as to give them the best experience possible.

Yes – all our leaders are DBS checked and there will always be one first aider on site too.
