Sparking creativity with Creation Home Delivery

Sarah Headen, Education Manager

The virtual stage is set, ten fabulous stories are ready to be shared, Compendiums of Creativity have been popped in the post and we’re ready and waiting for our brilliant Home Delivery members to join us for the start of term!  Our online drama and storytelling classes boost confidence and spark children’s creativity and imagination both inside and outside of sessions.

But what does membership to Home Delivery include, I hear you ask?  Read on to find out about all the fabulous treats that lie in store for our members this term.

Compendiums of Creativity

The first part of any member’s adventure with Home Delivery begins when they hear their letter box clang and onto their doormat falls one of our ‘Creativity Compendiums’.  We are super lucky this term to have Oxford-based children’s illustrator Lucy Jollow joining us to create entertaining activities and wacky characters to accompany the Sprites and Spritelings in our online sessions.  Every member receives a ‘Creativity Compendium’ which is stuffed full of activities for the first five weeks of term including puzzles, riddles, word searches and lots of open ended creative drawing and writing tasks.  My personal favourite is ‘The Little Mermaid’ week where the children are invited to draw different styles of tails for the motley gang of mermaids pictured.  Who can resist the charm of a fisher-merman with a tail designed for battling pirates?

Even better, the second half of the Creativity Compendium is a blank notebook so members can go to town writing their own stories and drawing their own crazy characters when their session is over.

Story based drama

Who doesn’t love getting lost in a story? Our education team love sharing classic stories from a wide range of different authors and time periods and each week is themed around a carefully selected story.  This term covers an exciting range of stories that children will find entertaining and inspiring.  We’ll be diving under the ocean with The Little Mermaid, pirate treasure hunting with John from Moonfleet and trying to solve some of Squirrel Nutkin’s fiendish riddles to name just a few.

Interactive

Once our members have received their CC (shortened for ease!) and been introduced to the term’s stories, they’re then ready for their first online session. Login details are sent the night before by a Creation minion (me!) and children access their session through the Zoom platform where they will be met by our brilliant Home Delivery team.  We like to deliver our online sessions through a blend of storytelling, drama games and activities.  Each session may have a different style so our members have to be prepared for anything!  But one thing we can tell you for sure is that a Home Delivery session is always active!  Children need to be at the ready in case they are needed to collect props, and have space around them so that they can explore and move around. Who knows just when you might need to transform into an evil sea witch and explore her underground network of sea caves?

FUN

The thing that you should most expect from a Home Delivery session is that they’re incredibly FUN.  They’re fun to plan, they’re fun to teach and most importantly for our members, they’re 100% fun to take part in.

Intrigued?  If you have a child aged 5-10 who loves to be creative and have fun, Home Delivery sessions would be perfect for them.  Sign up to join us after half term here.
