INNOVATE UK FUNDING
PUBLIC FUNDING FROM INNOVATE UK HELPS KEEP THE CREATION STORY ALIVE
On Thursday 5 November, fireworks were flying at Creation as we were able to celebrate receiving £165,000 of public funding from Innovate UK to further develop our digital venture.
Innovate UK (the UK’s innovation agency) is all about helping innovative ideas to flourish, so we are absolutely delighted to have been awarded funding for a radical and comprehensive project to produce pioneering work in the digital theatre space. We’ll be drawing on expertise from the worlds of tech, theatre, film and gaming to create three projects:
Develop a new Digital Theatre Platform This will involve a significant collaboration with two market leading tech companies, Flipside, and interactive storytelling experts Charisma AI (the tech wizards behind Alice this summer). We’ll develop an alternative platform with cutting edge technical advances that will utilise live performance and theatrical disciplines digitally.
Produce a sustainability report
In transferring live performance into digital realms, we’ve noticed an enormously positive change in our carbon emissions. This funding will support the research and publication of a report into carbon reduction associated with Digital Theatre to share within the sector.
Launch a Digital Repertory Company
A huge part of continuing to create work is to ensure the survival of the wonderful creative freelancers we work with. We are now in a position to support our sector further by introducing a Rep Company which will employ five full-time actors over six months. This team will perform in two major pieces of digital theatre, as well as supporting our Education and fundraising teams.
The first production launches in January/February 2021, and project work is already underway!
