The Emperor of the Moon
22 - 28 April
Digital Theatre | Live online
The culmination of our collaboration with David Taylor and The R18 collective, this show was a radical re-imagining of Aphra Behn’s hilarious farce, transposed to a dystopian future where the Dr has become an online cult leader.
Dr. Baliardo has lost the plot. Obsessed with crackpot theories and more interested in his huge telescope than his family, an intervention is needed – and that’s exactly what his daughter, niece, and their lovers intend. When Baliardo is contacted by none other than the “Emperor of the Moon”, so begins an elaborate ruse that will bring both the triumph of love and the return of reason.
Aphra Behn’s spectacular farce – packed with slapstick humour and special effects – delighted audiences when it premiered in 1687. Now, brought to you live each night by the magic of digital theatre, it will delight audiences once more!
A recording of the performance and post show talk is available to students studying the text, please email boxoffice@creationtheatre.co.uk to request access.
The production was directed by Gari Jones and presented by in collaboration with TORCH and the R/18 Collective.
