Extinction Monologues Online by Glyn Maxwell

Pre-recorded - Watch at home!

Buy a Ticket & you can watch the recording at any point in the following week.

Have you met the Hainan Black Crested Gibbon? La Hotte Glanded Frog?

Have you spent time with the Silky Sifaka, or the Holy Grail Tree?

Had a pint with Franklin’s Bumblebee or the Sumatran Rhinoceros?

Come and spend some time with the Creation Rep Company and 101 of the most threatened animals, insects and plants on the planet.

This summer Glyn Maxwell embarked on the project of writing 101 poems for the 101 species most at risk of extinction.

He’s aiming to have it finished by New Year’s Eve.

Come and join us for a performance of a selection of the poems and monologues, hot off the press.

After the success of our collaboration with Glyn Maxwell on Boatman Town earlier this year (“a delightful evening, skilfully performed by a great ensemble, proof positive of the magic of theatre”  ★★★★★ The Spy in the Stalls) we are thrilled to be collaborating again on this timely project.

We’re looking forward to performing this work in progress, hot off the press. Below, Glyn Maxwell talks about the project with Anna Tolputt from the Creation Rep Company.

Performed on the 3rd-4th October 2024 at The Slow & Steady, Oxford and the 5th October at The Ballroom at The Bedford.

Extinction Monologues follows the sell out run of Boatman Town (a new version of Everyman which was written by Gyn Maxwell) which toured Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and London pubs earlier this year.

Glyn Maxwell is a poet, playwright, novelist, librettist and critic.  His volumes of poetry include The Breakage, Hide Now, and Pluto, all of which were shortlisted for either the Forward or T. S. Eliot Prizes, and The Nerve, which won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. His Selected Poems, One Thousand Nights and Counting, was published on both sides of the Atlantic in 2011. He has a long association with Derek Walcott, who taught him in Boston in the late 1980s, and whose Selected Poems he edited in 2014.

On Poetry, a guidebook for the general reader, was published by Oberon in 2012. The Spectator called it ‘a modern classic’ and The Guardian’s Adam Newey described it as ‘the best book about poetry I’ve ever read.’ Drinks With Dead Poets, which is both an expansion of On Poetry and a novel in itself, will be published by Oberon in September 2016.

Many of Maxwell’s plays have been staged in London and New York, including Liberty at Shakespeare’s Globe, and at the Almeida, Arcola, RADA and Southwark Playhouse. For the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre in Chester, the UK’s premier outdoor venue outside of London, he has adapted Cyrano De Bergerac and Wind in the Willows.
