Jane Austen's Lady Susan
Next start date: June 8th 2026
Austen's epistolary novel, delivered to your inbox: 41 short films in 41 days
Calling all Jane Austen fans! A daily dose of Austen in your inbox. This is the last opportunity to see it!
Creation Theatre are celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary with a suitably quirky adaptation of her epistolary novel, Lady Susan, which you can access from anywhere in the world.
Austen’s Lady Susan takes the form of 41 letters, written by the novel’s fabulous characters, over a period of weeks. Lady Susan herself is one of Austen’s most memorable characters – scheming, flirtatious, self-serving and yet, decidedly charming. Newly widowed, she’s intent on finding herself a wealthy new husband and marrying off her sixteen year old daughter as advantageously as possible. As rumours of her reputation spread, can she convince everyone that it is all slander and she’s just misunderstood?
Creation Theatre’s innovative adaptation of Jane Austen’s witty and mischievous novel transforms Lady Susan’s 41 letters into 41 beautifully crafted short films, brought to life by a brilliant cast. You’ll receive one film a day—an unfolding story told through letters brimming with intrigue, charm, and delicious scandal.
Looking for a unique gift? You can gift the experience to a friend or loved one—simply book a ticket and then let us know where to send the films.
Book here through Eventbrite, for starting date of June 8th 2026
If you are an educator and would like to share the experience with your students there are education tickets on sale for groups of up to 10, and 10+. If you need something more bespoke or want permission to screen the films in a lecture hall or classroom, just get in touch with ladysusan@creationtheatre.co.uk
Step into Austen’s world, one letter at a time—
“She is clever and agreeable, has all that knowledge of the world … which is too often used … to make black appear white.” Catherine Vernon on Lady Susan, Letter 6
“There is exquisite pleasure in subduing an insolent spirit, in making a person predetermined to dislike acknowledge one’s superiority.” Lady Susan, Letter 7
“What could I do! Facts are such horrid things.” Mrs Johnson, Letter 21
Creation theatre won multiple awards for innovative and unusual digital theatre in lockdown and built an international audience for our work; even though we are back to a busy ‘in person’ programme in Oxford, we are still keen to connect with our digital audience, who we hope will enjoy this unusual ‘inbox’ experience. It is also really important to us that work is accessible to the widest possible audience in unusual ways, so we hope that this reaches some corners our other work might not.
Tickets are £41 – so that works out as £1 a day for the duration of the project. To gift Lady Susan to a friend or family member, please order tickets and fill in their email address as the recipient.
