The Nutcracker

29th November 2025 to 3rd January 2026

The North Wall, Oxford

Step into a world of twinkling lights, ticking clocks, and toys that might just come to life… Follow young Marie as she’s swept from her family’s chaotic Christmas preparations into an enchanting adventure, where she must journey through a magical land of sweets, face the fearsome Mouse King, and join forces with a brave Nutcracker in the battle of a lifetime.

This Christmas, Creation Theatre brings a brand-new theatrical take on The Nutcracker — adapted from the original E.T.A. Hoffmann tale and filled with wonder, mischief, and festive adventure. Expect dancing (not always by ballerinas), magical transformations, and a generous helping of nutty humour — all wrapped up in a glorious score by Patrick Stockbridge, expect plenty of toe-tapping tunes.

  • A festive treat for families, grown-ups, and anyone who still believes in a bit of magic.
  • Packed with imagination, laughter, and Christmas cheer.
  • At Oxford’s North Wall Theatre – your essential Christmas tradition.

Because in Oxford, it isn’t Christmas until you’ve seen Creation’s Christmas show.

P.S. It’s not the ballet. But it’s every bit as magical!

Running time: 2 hours, including a 20 minute interval

Age guidance: 5 – 105!

30 December at 6pm Captioned Show:

There will be a screen on the stage right side of the stage showing the words spoken by the actors. Every seat on the plan for this performance has an (i). If you hover you’ll see that this tells you whether the seat does or does not have a view of the caption unit. Generally front on seats on the left hand side of the auditorium have a good view of the unit.

The 2pm shows on 23rd and 29th December will be Relaxed Performances

A relaxed performance is where the ambience of the auditorium and theatre ‘rules’ are relaxed. These performances are ideal for people with learning disabilities or autism, or anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. The director and the actors and technical team on the show will also have thought carefully about what might need to change in the show so that people’s needs have been considered. For instance, very loud noises or music might be turned down or specific movements or lines might be adapted slightly.

We will create a visual story that will be handed out on the day.

Touch tour – Saturday 13 December at 1:15pm (in advance of the 2pm show)

A member of our team will be hosting a tour of the set, props and costume.  The aim is to provide context about the show and to allow blind and partially sighted members of the audience to familiarise themselves with the design of the space, costumes and props ahead of the show itself.

What is the age guidance?

Younger children may well enjoy the spectacle and will certainly love the songs and dancing however the running time is around 2 hours including the interval. Of course we’ll welcome younger children as part of a family trip, but the show has not been designed with pre-school children in mind.
